The "Greenfield" facility will be built on a Como Road site on the outskirts of Ingham, about 100km north of Townsville.

The advantages of the site location are that it is centrally located to the prime cane growing land in the district, has good road and rail access down the east coast of Queensland to access local and regional markets and is in close proximity to the Ingham power sub-station for electricity export.

The location also opens the possibility of export of ethanol and sugar through bulk container shipping, with access to port facilities at both Lucinda and Townsville.

The designated facility site is optimal for a number of reasons:

  • The existing cane rail network that has been used to transport cane billets for milling throughout the Herbert River region terminates approximately 2km from the site boundary
  • High voltage access is available to an electrical substation located approximately 2km from the site.
  • The factory site is situated very well in terms of its ability to access ethanol and co-product markets, utilities, labour pools, and community services.
